Congratulations to NASA for their successful landing on Mars! They are starting to beat the odds, as something like half of all landings have failed (I imagine the Martians shooting our spacecraft out of their atmosphere like an "Asteroids" game). Others in the geoblogosphere have discussed what we hope to find (here, here, and here), but I am curious:
If you were a Martian, and had five chances to land a spacecraft on Earth, WHAT FIVE LOCATIONS WOULD YOU PICK TO LAND IN SUCH A WAY AS TO LEARN AS MUCH ABOUT THE PLANET AS POSSIBLE? Imagine that you have mapping spacecraft that provide high quality photographs of the surface, but that you know no more about Earth than we do about Mars.
I will give it some thought and offer my suggestions, but I haven't had time to think that far ahead.

We were driving home from visit and observe what looked like a jet stream going straight up like 90 degree vertically so I took pics because I never saw a jet at a 90 degree vertical stream. The sun was not in the pics. The pics I have of the sun are very bright and overload the pictures. I have other pics of the sky that day in the same area. Because we were driving I was taking them quickly with my cell phone and didn't realize I had this object in the picture until I got home and was showing people pics of the clouds. It literally went straight up. Elizabeth Bishop was driving and observed the same thing. I had purely been in Delta and headed over to Surrey to draw to a close my playfellow for auburn in Guildford. Unevenly 9.50 PM to roughly 9:55pm on October 20th was each time we all saw it. I was tiring him lay on 152nd Direction each time it jammed our concept. I saw a very big sour triangular object that looked desire a Mil Turn but wasn't 100% sure as it was super black/dark it had snowy rotund lights at the ambition of it too which I found dreadfully old-fashioned. Assumed they would be on the forefront. Possibly everything to do sooner than celebrities in town truthful that visited Surrey? Not over the top for me as in my other experiences.
