I have found that there are a variety of reactions among people, ranging from honest acceptance, to outright denial. After giving it some thought, I have narrowed down the reaction styles of almost all people into five overall categories, which I am going to share with you now. While the explanations for their opinions may vary widely, I feel that almost all opinions can be reasonably fit into one of the following:

Type 1: Honest Informed Acceptance

"At one point I wasn't sure, but I wanted to know the truth. After spending much time investigating the subject, I have come to the conclusion that UFOs and Extra-terrestrials do seem to definitely exist."

This type of reaction occupies the most honest and realistic side of the spectrum. It is differentiated from the rest of the spectrum by it's lack of denial, and its quality of being "well informed". The person has accepted, at one point in the past, that they didn't know, which led to their pursuit of knowledge. After enough evidence was gleaned from that pursuit, they came to the inevitable conclusion that these phenomena are real. They are a person who is concerned with knowing the truth, and as such would find it distasteful or unsatisfying to remain willingly ignorant on such an important issue as the existence of extra-terrestrial life. As a result of their knowledge, their overall world-view has most-likely undergone a great degree of transformation.

Type 2: Honest Uninformed Ignorance

"I've seen some footage of some supposed UFOs, and I know some people claim they've been abducted, but I just don't really think those things are enough to prove it. They could be man-made flying objects that people just couldn't identify, or hoaxes. Even if there were extra-terrestrials, they couldn't travel faster than light, so it would take them thousands of years to get here. And even if they did get here, what would they want with humanity, anyway? I'm just not convinced."

In this reaction, the person maintains their honesty with themselves somewhat, but has a lack of information. They may have seen isolated fragments, but have not seen enough of the totality of evidence to have a big picture of just how much proof there really is. Due to this lack of being informed, they leave room for other explanations in their mind, and so for them the question is still "up in the air," so to speak. They do usually have an opinion of some type, but being uninformed, it is meaningless, and simply what they prefer to think. This portion of the spectrum is still relatively free of denial, but it is slightly more fearful than Type 1. After all, if they really weren't afraid, they probably would have more thoroughly sought the truth. In that sense, there is more of an element of denial than Type 1. Also, they may have very limited views of what is possible, and so may entertain various ideas of why interstellar travel would be technologically impossible. They may also make large assumptions about Extra-terrestrial motivations, and reason that they wouldn't be interested in coming to earth. Many scientists have this type of reaction.

Type 3: Disinterested Uninformed Ignorance

"I know that a lot of people claim to have seen them, and I acknowledge that they may actually exist. But you know, as long as they aren't invading our planet and trying to eat us, I just don't really care! After all, does their existing out there somewhere really have any direct effect on my life?"

This type of reaction is in the middle of the scale, because it falls just short of absolute denial, since it is still not properly informed, which is a quality it shares with Type 2. The difference here is that the person knows that evidence probably does exist, and that if they sought that evidence, they might find out it was true. This idea scares them, and so they make up reasons why it shouldn't matter to them. There is a strong likelihood that they are doing this unconsciously, and are not aware of the true reason for their lack of interest. In this sense, it does have an element of denial, and is somewhat related to Type 4. This person is of the type that is likely to be so caught up in their day-to-day life and trivial matters, that they accept their cultural version of reality without much question or critical analysis.

Type 4: Dishonest Informed Denial

"Yes, I've seen this supposed 'evidence.' I've also seen mental patients who believe these aliens are sending them radio signals in their brains. I believe that all these supposed 'phenomena' have perfectly logical explanations, and most of the time they are either hallucinations or hoaxes. The fact of the matter is that some people will believe anything, and other people will tell those people any outrageous story, just for fun. I think most of these UFO nuts are just plain crazy."

This reaction involves a variety of arguments and rationalizations to deny or explain-away the reality of these phenomena. That's because this person most-likely actually is informed, to some degree, or has seen some evidence which was fairly convincing. However, this person is unwilling to allow the appropriate changes to their worldview that would be involved in accepting the existence of this phenomena. If aliens are real, that opens the door to a whole host of possibilities, many of which are fairly frightening. So, like a child clinging to a blanket, they come up with enumerable excuses not to let go. This is where the dishonesty part of the equation comes in; it is not so much that they are lying to someone else, as much as it is that they are lying to themselves. Most of the arguments they make can be easily exposed as fallacies, but regardless of how illogical they are shown to be, they will insist that they are the only ones being rational, and that people who "believe" are gullible or insane.

Type 5: Deceptive Informed Denial

"The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public's eye."

This type of reaction is reserved for a few select people who are in fact directly involved in publicly denying and covering up the ET/UFO phenomena. However, because of the amount of fear that they have that the knowledge of extra-terrestrials and UFOs will cause social upheaval, and/or threaten their power structure, they actively deny it to the public. Therefore, this class of reaction is in fact completely honest with themselves, but is dishonest with others on the subject. They know the situation is real, but they openly lie and deceive others into thinking that it isn't, supposedly for their own good, at least in this person's mind. This reaction is actually based the most on fear, out of all of the types.

To lend some understanding to why people are so afraid of the truth of the ET/UFO phenomena, here are some words from John E. Mack, a Harvard psychologist who spent years studying UFO abductees and witnesses.

From cigar-shaped spacecraft in the night sky to abduction by aliens, they are the tales that have captivated the imagination of Earthlings for nearly a century.

And now the Ministry of Defence has revealed its latest batch of reports from people claiming a close encounter in the UK.

The sightings only go up to 2009, as that was the year the 'British X-Files' desk was closed.

Spookily, that year also saw a trebling in the frequency of UFO reports, the newly declassified files show.

The year 2009 saws the second highest number of reports recorded by the MoD - totalling 643 - beaten only by the 750 sightings in 1978, the year Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (pictured) was released in UK cinemas

More than 600 alien experiences were reported to the MoD's UFO hotline, more than double the previous year and three times the usual number, according to the papers released by the National Archives.

The files from 2007 to 2009 reveal several of bizarre reports of encounters with extraterrestrials, including a man who claimed he lived with an alien, UFO sightings near the Houses of Parliament and Stonehenge, and a man whose dog and tent were abducted.

They also reveal the claim by one man to have developed a weapon to shoot down UFOs.

Some experts say there was a simple, non-sinister reason why the number of sightings soared in the hotline's final year of operation - a rise in popularity of Chinese lanterns being released at weddings and other events.

There were 643 reports in 2009, up from around 100 to 200 a year between 2000 and 2007.

It was the second highest number of reports recorded by the MoD, beaten only by the 750 sightings in 1978 - the year Close Encounters Of The Third Kind was released in UK cinemas.

Another peak had occurred in the mid-1990s, when the US TV show The X-Files was at the height of its popularity.

Dr David Clarke, author of the book The UFO Files based on earlier MoD data, said: 'There are many reasons why the number of reports trebled in 2009.

'Many of the sighting accounts - such as formations of orange lights moving slowly across the sky - describe the appearance of Chinese lanterns even though people did not recognise them at the time.'

The first description of a UFO was from a sighting made in US in 1947, although Met Office reports a quarter of a century earlier had included data on unexplained phenomena.

In 1952, Prime Minister Winston Churchill took the issue so seriously that he ordered reports of sightings to be kept secret to avoid public panic.

But during its 50 years of collecting and investigating reports, the UFO desk and hotline uncovered no evidence to indicate the existence of 'any military threat to the UK'.

The files reveal that one person phoned the hotline to report twice seeing UFOs hovering over the Houses of Parliament in London in February 2008.

He described 'green, red and white lights' that remained still in the sky for an hour and a half.

Another sent an email to report seeing 'discoid' shapes in photographs of Stonehenge taken two years previously.

'I didn't see anything in the sky at the time. Upon uploading them to my computer, though, I spotted the discoid shapes in the background.'

Another email said photographs of Blackpool Pier taken in October 2008 showed aircraft that had not been visible at the time. The UFO desk investigated and an official said two of the objects 'look like stunt kites' and the third 'looks like a seagull head-on'.

The MoD axed the department - which had no US equivalent and which by 2009 had only one officer - because it served 'no defence purpose' and was diverting resources from 'more valuable defence-related activities', the files reveal.

There were also fears that its existence encouraged spurious UFO reports.

When the announcement of the closure was made, MoD officials predicted a backlash from ufologists convinced that the truth was still out there.

Many wrote to the Queen, Prime Minister Gordon Brown and ministers to demand sightings were investigated.

And the little girl who asked for the truth...

A young girl wrote to the UFO desk about aliens saying she had seen 'little air crafts' in the sky.

She continued: 'Please tell me what the truth is I've a right to know', the files reveal.

The letter the child sent included a picture of an extraterrestrial in a spaceship waving and asked whether there is life on other planets.

The MoD replied thanking the writer, from Altrincham, near Manchester, for the letter and sent some RAF 'goodies'.

The schoolgirl's letter reads: 'To Mr/Mrs. Please tell me if living things live out side our planet. I would like to now [sic] because me and my father have seen little air crafted [sic] in the sky.

'And my father have seen 2 little light dancing around each other.

'Please send me a letter telling me the answer.'

The MoD wrote back to her saying: 'Thank you for your letter asking if there is life outside our planet.

'It's an interesting question and we remain totally open-minded about it, but we don't know of any evidence to prove life exists in outer space.

'We do look at reports of "unidentified flying objects" but only to see if the country's airspace might have been affected but we haven't had any evidence of this so far.

'I am enclosing some RAF goodies that I thought you might like.'

Unidentified Triangle Shaped Ufo Spotted By Eyewitness Above Texas

This unidentified triangle shaped UFO has been caught hovering above Glaveston Texas, the eyewitness has stated the UFO was made up of three glowing orbs.

I was walking my dog about 9PM. As I approached my home in the culdesac I noticed 3 lights in the Western sky in triangular formation. Initially I felt they had to be planets since they were not flickering. Because of the triangular formation I got my camera and took pictures.

The cul de sac was dark with no light interference. I went to my back yard and still saw the 3 lights so I took another picture of them. Then I forgot about it since I believed it was a combination of planets in the sky but very unusual.

Stan Friedman Debunkers At It Again

Frank Warren at UFO Chronicles hosts an article by Stanton Friedman: Debunkers At It Again. An excellent factual article by Friedman (we would expect nothing less) where he takes the Skeptical Inquirer's resident debunkers apart. In the article the usual pathological skeptics (McGaha, Nye, Nickels, etc.) simply lie. Opinions are one thing, intentionally misrepresenting the facts and data is another. It's called "lying. " Even though I understand that the Trickster is doing its thing and is an innate part of paranormal phenomena, and even though I understand the debunkers and the disinformation artists are supposed to do exactly what they're doing, there are days where I just can't abide their antics. Thankfully we have people like Friedman who still say it like it is when it comes to these clowns.As Friedman points out, many of these debunkers, though not all of them, have backgrounds in non-science fields. Stage magic, literature, etc. Having a science background does not make one credible, or, not, in regards to UFOs and the esoteric. However, it does become a major issue when one presents oneself as somehow immersed in a vague, ever shifting idea about "science" in order to dissemble UFOlogy and related phenomena.

Refer to photos. While navigating around my daughters house/neighborhood ( 7 miles from my own home)using google earth I noticed what appears to be a UFO over her house and took many freeze frames of it using my iPad. I left the photos alone for over a year until a friend saw them and suggested I share them. When i first saw it I Immediately knew that it must more than likely be a UFO based on the shape & similar images that I've seen & heard about in the past & cannot explain it away by anything else such as another light source. I suppose that my proof would be this. The Images were not taken by me. These are actual satellite images taken from Google earth that I just happened to capture while doing some Neighborhood research. I was able to freeze that frame by capturing it using an ipad feature. Perhaps you can go back and find the same images I'm not sure.im not exactly sure about the date but took a guess based on my recollection but I'm sure if I research some more I may find it. ithe google image has probably changed since. I don't know much about Google earth but i am pretty sure that their images are updated from time to time. I think I'll check it out more often from now on. Let me know what your experts say. I have many more photos than i was able to submit because i uploaded individually rather than file. (Not sure how and didn't want to risk losing all of this data.) Not less than a second later to the Southeast of my position I saw a greenish-white orb zoom past over my neighborhood coming from the West and heading to the East at an astonishing speed! It lasted no more than two seconds and disappeared before my eyes! I did not blink at all and nothing got in my way. The UFO was silent and did not leave any trails what so ever. It did not blink but instead maintained the glowing light it gave off. Right after I saw the UFO I looked back at the airplane and it was still coming in the same direction and same location it was before I saw the UFO. Then I let my dog in and called my girlfriend to tell her the exciting and bizarre news! I also yelled for my family to tell them what I saw as well even though I knew most of them were going to be skeptical. Then I continued to look at the sky to see if I could see anything like it again! I know this was not a commercial airplane because for thirteen years I lived near O'Hare International Airport and I am familiar with their speed, size, lights, and sound. I know it was not a small airplane because they fly around where I live now and I know how fast they travel and how they look, sound, and how their lights blink on and off. None of the aircraft I have seen before, have a non-blinking light. It amazes me at how fast this thing traveled and how it did not make any sound at all and disappeared before my eyes.
