What's as interesting to me as the story are some of the comments left by readers. Some readers have had similar experiences through the years. Yet others find the story not real news and pointless.
Referring to NUFORC's suggestion to the witness to contact the media about the sighting, a poster calling himself "What" comments:

I don't get this type of "logic." If I write about scrambled eggs, does that mean I don't care about war, poverty, children's issues, or if Sonny and Carly are going to get back together on General Hospital?
Okay, not the best example. But this kind of ho hum, why are you boring us routine from those who don't even bother to debunk or scoff; they respond with a big yawn and ignore the weird lights and orbs over their heads... I don't get it.
I find this reaction -- or non-reaction-- particularly odd in these post 9/11 days. Homeland Security, terror alerts and scales; if there are weird things flying over your property, wouldn't you be concerned? Interested, at least? The conclusion these UFOs are ET is an assumption, and some may go there right away, but not everyone, including me. INTRODUCTION
The animal mutilation phenomenon is a very bizarre and disturbing aspect of the UFO subject. Despite there being a relatively low number of reported cases than with other aspects of the subject such as UFO sightings or abductions, especially within the UK, mutilations are still occurring and should not be ignored. The media rarely cover such incidents but this does not mean that they are not taking place. Some people believe that all mutilation cases have natural explanations, despite some very interesting evidence which suggests otherwise. However there are many researchers, myself included, who still consider them directly related to the extra-terrestrial presence on Earth.
While it is true that some cases have no doubt been the result of natural death and decay, there are others which have indicated removal of certain parts of the animal using sharp/heated cutting tools or where animals have been entirely drained of blood. There are also known cases where a UFO has been witnessed and then a mutilated animal has been found in the same area shortly afterwards. There also appears to be a military interest in the subject, as black military helicopters have often been reported hovering near to where mutilations have been discovered.
As Birmingham UFO Group is an urban-based group situated in one of the largest cities of the UK, it is unsurprising that we do not have many mutilation cases reported to us. Most mutilations take place on open farmland, something that Birmingham is not particularly well known for! However occasionally we have been sent details of suspected mutilation cases. This is one such example.
CARCASS DISCOVERY DETAILS
Andy Zukowski is a support worker from Tiverton in Devon. On 9th April 2011 he and two of his clients were out walking along a 3.5 mile long national footpath that runs through farmland between Collipriest and Bickleigh. It was about 4.30pm. The weather was dull and overcast but dry. The ground was a little damp but it did not look like it had rained for several days.

During the return leg of their walk they came across a number of dead sheep in various states of decay. This is not uncommon while out walking in Devon. All the carcasses looked completely normal as Andy would expect them to appear. After seeing about 5 carcasses Andy then noticed one lying in a field about 20 metres away from the edge of the path. The field lies alongside Tiverton sewage treatment works. There were some other carcasses nearby and some live sheep at the other end of the field.

The carcass looked different to the others; its wounds looked unfamiliar to him. He and his clients approached it to take a closer look. The animal was lying on one side. On the upper side it was clear that the eye and the majority of the ear were missing. It had a large gaping hole around the rectal area. Considering the size of the wound there was no blood visible, or flesh on the ground beneath it. There was no blood surrounding the carcass, just a small amount running from the nose. The damage to the animal looked like clean cuts, there were no visible bite marks on it. There was some wool on the ground around the rear of the sheep, but it appeared that this could have been from shearing, as there was no blood on it and it was scattered rather than clearly from one direction.
The injuries visible on the carcass immediately reminded Andy of an animal mutilation, as he has an interest in the UFO subject and had seen mutilation photographs before. He says that he has never come across any other animal with wounds such as this in the 33 years he has been walking in Devon. After examining the carcass for about 20 minutes he and his clients then continued on their way. 20 minutes later Andy returned to the site with his brother to take some colour photographs of the animal.
Two days later he got in touch with BUFOG about his discovery. After discussing the carcass with Andy via E-Mail I made plans to drive down to Devon to see it with my own eyes. However the earliest I could do this would be Saturday the 13th April. I asked Andy if he could return to the location on the evening of the 12th to ensure that it was still present, which he agreed was a good course of action.
At 6.15pm Andy returned to the field where the animal had been situated. Unfortunately he discovered that all the dead sheep had been cleared away, probably by the farmer. There was nothing left on the ground where the animal had been lying. 90 minutes previously Andys friend Gareth had travelled out to the field to take a look at the carcass after seeing the photographs Andy had taken. When Andy spoke with him after returning to the field, Gareth informed him that he had seen some other dead sheep but not the one which had been photographed. It appears that this one had been cleared away first at an earlier point of time.
Due to the fact that the animal was cleared away, no further examination of it could take place. I therefore only have the photographs to base my analysis on.

PHOTOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
After examining the photographs of the carcass, I feel that it is probable that on this occasion the death of the animal was natural and this is not a mutilation. My conclusion is based on the following reasoning:
- The carcass seems a little bloated, and it is likely to have been there for a number of days despite the general lack of decomposition.- There are no wounds on the animal which are obviously artificial.- The eye and ear are the most fleshy parts of the head, and are therefore the parts which are removed first by scavengers.- There is no removal of jaw flesh, a common trait of animal mutilation incidents.- It does not appear that the animal has been drained of blood, as blood can be seen running from the nose.- The damage around the rectal area and surrounding wool on the ground is likely to be the result of scavengers, and indicate that it has been used as an entry point into the carcass.- There were other dead sheep in the nearby vicinity at different stages of decay. This shows that something had recently caused the decease of livestock in the area, probably the cold weather over the preceding weeks (I hope to verify this soon with the farmer)
In order to ensure that I was correct in my assumptions, I decided to contact Mike Freebury from the Animal Pathology Field Unit, a UK-based expert on animal mutilations. After sending him the photographs (with Andy's permission), he replied with the following comments:
"It looks like a natural death to me. Unfortunately, we do not know how long the animal has been dead and we do not know if the tongue has been removed. I suspect that decomposition may be quite advanced and that wild animals, in particular rats and crows, have had a go at the carcass. The best time to get to a mute case is within 24 hours of death. A vet told me that the body can stay warm for up to 18 hours after death. A lot of sheep have died in this cold spell and this could be just another. However, with the body now disposed of we may never know for sure."
As you can see, Mike's thoughts on the photographs echo my own. At present it seems likely that this was not a mutilation case. However I would like to thank Andy for his initiative in taking the photographs and getting in touch. It is always best to remain observant rather than simply ignoring suspected mutilations, as reported incidents aid in deepening our understanding of this unsettling subject. I would also like to thank Mike for his comments on the photos.

Prof Cockell, whose work involves the study of life in extreme environments and the possibility of life beyond Earth, said that while he believed there was no evidence for extraterrestrial life at the moment, he did not rule it out.
"It would be staggering to find that there was nothing out there. It is perplexing we don't see anything. Either it is too rare or can't travel across intergalactic distances."
Prof Cockell, who has worked at NASA, is chair of the Earth and Science Foundation which links Earth and space exploration and runs an alien-hunting night class at the university, added: "If something did happen the public would have to be made aware. There would have to be a decision on how much to tell them, but I don't know any government who would be competent enough to hide it."
The fascination with outer space has a long history, with the majority of "aliens" being pre-judged as aggressive and hostile.

UFO SIGHTING IN KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN ON NOVEMBER 14TH 2013 - THREE DISTANCED, FIERY, REDDISH-ORANGE LIGHTS PASSING NW OVER WEST KALAMAZOO, MI
Delivering pizzas in the Arcadia neighborhood, I glanced up and saw three distant, glowing red lights approaching from the SW horizon. They really grabbed my attention. They were high in the sky, distanced from each other but single-file, moving NW at normal passenger plane's pace. It was nighttime -- black starry sky. At first I figured they were planes but as the first one grew closer, it struck me as odd. It didn't have the typical separated (blinking) lights you would see under a plane. It seemed as though it was one mass of reddish-orange light -- all three of them did -- flickering sort of like a fire. A little bit excited, I pulled into the cul-de-sac, parked my car and got out to get a better view. I listened for the sound of a plane but I heard nothing. The second light passed overhead thirty seconds after the first, followed by the third one thirty seconds after that. By the time the third light was overhead, the first one's light faded out well before it reached the NW horizon. As the other two moved, they both faded out when they reached the same place the first one did. There may have been a cloud at that position that they passed through, but since I could see stars in nearly every direction; something seemed off. It's been on my mind ever since, so I started researching similar things over the past couple weeks, and apparently fiery red lights are sometimes associated with ufos. They certainly didn't seem like planes and at no point could a I hear a sound possibly coming from any of them. So that brings me here. FAIRBANKS - In the realm of unexplained events in Alaska, the story about Japan Airlines Flight 1628 must be near the top.
On Nov. 17, 1986, the JAL 747 was headed across Interior Alaska toward a refueling stop in Anchorage when the captain and crew saw what they took to be unidentified flying objects in the darkness to the east.
They saw lights to the left and below the plane shortly after 5 p.m. and began a series of conversations and actions that have been replayed over and over again by those who think UFOs were involved.
The incident was among those mentioned in a two-hour show first broadcast Thursday on the History Channel. "Secret Access: UFOs on the Record," deals with several incidents, one of which is the Alaska incident.
The plane, carrying a cargo of French wine for Tokyo, was northeast of Fort Yukon when the captain first reported seeing the lights. As the co-pilot set a course toward Talkeetna, the lights stayed with the plane.
After six or seven minutes, Captain Kenju Terauchi said later, the lights suddenly appeared in front of the 747. The co-pilot and flight engineer also reported seeing the strange lights. Minutes later they saw a large object following them.
With permission from air traffic control in Anchorage, the plane descended to 31,000 feet and was just south of Fairbanks when it made a 360-degree turn to see if the strange lights would follow. There were no reports of military aircraft operating in the area.
"As the airplane passed over Eielson Air Force Base, near Fairbanks, the captain said he noticed, looming behind his airplane, the dark silhouette of a gigantic 'mothership' larger than two aircraft carriers. He asked air traffic control for permission to take his airplane around in a complete circle and then descend to 31,000 feet. Terauchi said his shadower followed him through both maneuvers," a 1987 account in Air ">
The plane landed in Anchorage without incident.
While the late Philip Klass, a UFO debunker, contended the JAL crew saw the bright lights of Jupiter, that did not end the debate and others said Klass was incorrect.
Leslie Kean, author of "UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record," provided commentary for the TV show on several cases she included in her 2010 book, one of which is the JAL close encounter.
One of the fascinating aspects of the tale comes from John Callahan, a former FAA executive who gave detailed remarks at a National Press Club presentation in 2007 on the incident.
He was the division chief of the Accidents, Evaluations and Investigations Division of the FAA in Washington, for six years during the 1980s.
Callahan said he first heard of the incident in January 1987, when the UFO story hit the news.
The voice tapes and other material were sent to an FAA technical center in Atlantic City. Callahan said at first he thought the JAL crew had seen a stealth military aircraft, but he later concluded the evidence was inconclusive.
"If this craft had been a Learjet or military aircraft at the wrong attitude, that would have been clear. The FAA has procedures that cover tracking unidentified aircraft violating another's airspace - but it has no procedures for UFOs," he told the press club in 2007.
He was asked to give a presentation to the White House scientific staff and did so, including the video and printouts.
"At the end, one of the three people from the CIA said, 'This event never happened; we were never here; we're confiscating all this data and you are all sworn to secrecy.'"
"What do you think it was?" Callahan said he asked the CIA person.
"A UFO and now they have over 30 minutes of radar to go over," he responded.
To this day the JAL story remains unresolved.
"I spoke to a doctor -- he said it was an illusion," the JAL pilot once told a reporter for a Japanese magazine.

LOST FLIGHT: There was some news about another Alaska aviation puzzle last week, one that stands a better chance of being cleared up some day.
In August 1937, one of the most famous pilots in the world, a man sometimes called the "Russian Lindbergh," was on a nonstop flight from Moscow to Fairbanks when he disappeared over the Arctic Ocean.
Veteran Russian filmmaker Yuri Salnikov, who won awards this year for a documentary on the first man in space, was in Fairbanks last week gathering information about the last flight of Sigismund Levanevsky for a new documentary.
A massive search in 1937 failed to turn up the lost plane and there have been several efforts during the decades to find Levanevsky, who may have crashed just off the Alaska coast.
David Stone, a professor emeritus at the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute, organized a teleconference with several of the most prominent pilots and historians interested in finding Levanevsky. There are areas on the northeast Alaska coast that should be searched, they agreed, the question is whether funding can be found to mount a search.
Salnikov encouraged them to put together a plan and he would try to secure Russian support for an expedition.
